Lowell, MA

Inventing America: The Industrial Revolution in Lowell, M.A.

I received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant this summer to spend a week at the Tsongas Industrial History Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.  Along with 40 other teachers from across the nation, I participated in a variety of programs focusing on the history of industrialization. As we toured canals and textile mills, we listen to scholars discuss technology, labor relations, and the environmental impact of industrialization. During the week we visited Old Sturbridge Village, Walden Pond, and Minute Men National Historic Park in order to take advantage of the nearby resources. I can not wait to use the resources that I collected in my classes next year.
