Irish Adventure

Irish Adventure

Ireland is a country steeped in tradition and culture.  Events that took play in the 1850s like the potato famine are still as much a part of popular understanding as the current economic downfall.  At first this made it hard to figure out the history of Ireland because it all seemed like a jumble of rebellions that were all connected to this idea of self rule.  After talking to the locals I have come to understand that their identity as Irish is closely tied to this history. A large portion of the population starved or migrated to other countries because of the potato famine.  The population has never recovered and many Irish blame the English for letting them starve. The Irish are surrounded by mass graves and stone walls that are daily reminders of this tragedy.  Traveling in Ireland is a constant lesson that history shapes are lives.
